Dedicated to co-labor with parents in equipping the next generation for Christ-centered leadership

Rebecca Hunt

Head Administrator

I grew up as the eldest of two girls and had the privilege of using my sister and her friends as my first students at my ripe age of 8! My parents encouraged me to be a leader and raised me in the admonition of the Lord. I knew God had called me to teach my entire life and couldn’t wait to use those gifts upon graduation from college.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Education (specializing in Early Childhood) in 1999 from Baylor University.  Immediately following graduation, I began teaching kindergarten for the Mesquite and Rockwall Independent School Districts.  In 2006, I completed a Master’s Degree in Education specializing in Reading from Texas A&M-Commerce.

I am married to a wonderful man of God, Zachary, with whom we have three beautiful girls, Audrey, Katherine, and Caroline. Our lives consist of family outings, game and movie nights attending Eastgate Church. My hobbies include cooking, reading, and worshipping the Lord in song!

Upon starting a family, my views about education changed and, more importantly, it got me thinking about whom I want speaking into my girls’ lives. Because of my passion for education and youth, I was prompted to explore other options for schooling.   After experiencing both traditional schooling and homeschooling, I saw a strong need in the Lake Ray Hubbard area for education that encompassed both of these. The University Model School gave me an excitement in knowing that my children can be with me the majority of time and receive a top-notch education with their peers. Thus, Providence Academy was called into existence by God in 2009 with one kindergarten class comprised of five students.  A wise friend told me not to despite small beginnings!

I stand upon God’s Word for direction and wisdom in my life and cling to the scripture in Jeremiah 29:11-14.   For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.

Shanna O'Shields

Dean of Family Ministry

FACTS Manager

The Rockwall area has been my home for the past 12 years. I’ve have been happily married for over 15 years to my best friend in the world. We have a miracle daughter, Haven, who is a student at Providence Academy (PA). Providence Academy is an answer to prayer for our educational desires for our daughter.

After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, I worked in the business sector as a Director of Sales and Marketing in Norman, OK and in education. During my years of employment at Providence Academy, I’ve worn many hats (Teacher, Administrator, Dean of Family Ministry, Program Support, FACTS Manager, and Bookkeeper). Of all the positions, I’m most excited about the position of Dean of Family Ministry. Encouraging and ministering to families in this University Model School is a dream come true!

Jeff, my husband, and I are heavily involved with Lakeshore Church and have led and been a part of multiple ministry groups. Most recently, we led a mission trip in July to New York City. God has placed a call to ministry on my life and I feel so blessed to have this opportunity at Providence Academy.   My passions include: watching my husband coach, mission work, marriage ministry, spending time with my family, OU & SMU football games and traveling.

My prayer is that God’s light SHINES BRIGHTLY through me and that I go BOLDLY in everything for His glory!

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be involved with football when I grew up. After graduating high school, I got involved in sports broadcasting. After working in the radio business as a Color Analyst for football games for two years, I had a moment of clarity, and knew God was showing me a different path. As I looked down the sidelines, I witnessed how the coaches were speaking inspiring words into their players and I knew I was pursing the wrong dream. I was not being called to be a reporter or an analyst; I was being called to be a part of the game! From that moment on, I began my career in education and coaching.

After graduating from the University of Central Oklahoma, my wife, Shanna, and I moved to Texas to pursue my dream and passion of teaching and coaching.   I was employed by Rockwall ISD for 9 years and am thrilled to be at Providence Academy as a full-time Administrator and as the Director of Athletics. After coaching for 15 years, it has been a dream of mine to start an athletic program from the ground up. Coaching and teaching is a ministry for me. I’m thrilled that God has called me to Providence Academy. There are so many life lessons to be learned through leadership and athletics. I have enjoyed implementing a school-wide Honorable Character program in addition to Champions of Character and Champions of Leadership programs.

My family is the most important thing to me. I have the greatest wife in the world and the most precious daughter, Haven. I thank God for them every day and feel extremely blessed for the life I’ve been granted. I am an OU Football fanatic! My other passions include: OU and SMU football games, mission work, watching movies, traveling and spending time with my family.

“Commit yourself to the Lord in all you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Alissa Mauldin

Dean of Academics/ Middle School Language Arts

I grew up as part of a large family in Dallas.  I always wanted to be a teacher and my three younger sisters were my first students. I have always enjoyed reading and some of my favorite memories from childhood include going to the library, checking out stacks of books, and then staying up reading late at night.

I received a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from East Texas State University in 1994 along with my certification to teach grades 1-8 with a specialization in reading. I taught third and fourth grade for several years in the public school system. In 2000, I received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University - Commerce, and I was an assistant principal for several years until I left the public school system to be a full-time mom to our oldest son.

I've been married to my college sweetheart, Shane, for 21 years and we have four children who all attend Providence. We enjoy spending time together as a family and we are very blessed to have both of our extended families nearby. Shane and I serve in re|engage which is part of the marriage ministry at our church. Proverbs 3:5-6 is a guiding verse for my life: "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."

Our family has been so blessed by Providence Academy and I am grateful to be part of the PA staff.
