Kindergarten Teacher Self-Contained
I grew up in Mississippi and received my Bachelor of Science in Special Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. I moved to Texas almost immediately after graduating college. I received my M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Texas in Arlington with a triple literacy emphasis (English as a Second Language, Reading Specialist, and Master Reading Teacher). Before having kids, I taught Language Arts and Math as a special education teacher in Mesquite ISD. I also served as the special education chairperson and a mentor teacher. My husband, Conrad, and I have been married for 13 years and have two daughters. We have attended Providence since our oldest daughter was in K4 and this is our fourth year.
One of my favorite Bible verses is Hebrews 11:1 - "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." This is one of the first Bible verses I memorized with my parents.
First Grade Self-Contained
I grew up in Florida. After high school, I attended Christ For the Nations where I received my Theological Degree in 1995. I then attended DBU where I received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement in 1999.
From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I taught in the public school system for four years. I also taught for A.R.C.H.E. a total of eight years. I'm honored for the opportunity to serve the faculty, parents, and students of Providence.
My husband, Wally, and I have been married 18 years. We've been blessed with three children who attend Providence. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Second Grade Self-Contained
I was born in Wisconsin but raised in Louisiana, so I am a southern girl with an appreciation for seafood, cheese, and the Packers! I married Justin, my high school sweetheart, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri shortly after so he could attend seminary at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. While there I finished up my BA in Elementary Education and also received a Masters in Education from Webster University. During my time in Kansas City, I taught kindergarten and first grade while employed by the North Kansas City School District. I left the school system and became a homeschool mom after having our first child in 2003. Our journey brought us to Texas in 2010 when my husband became the preaching elder at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Wylie. We are the proud parents of three precious children: Caroline, Luke and Sam who bring great joy to our lives.
The classical model of education has always appealed to us therefore we educated our children accordingly. We were excited to find a classical UMS campus close to us so we could share this experience with others! We've thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Providence!
Coming up with a “favorite scripture” is difficult because God’s word has ministered to me in so many ways. It’s always relevant and always good. Having said that, the passages that come to mind first as food for my soul are Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” and Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I’m so thankful for the gift of salvation and God’s plan for my life!
Self-Contained 3rd Grade Teacher
I love that I was born and raised in Texas! I started my life living in Pleasant Grove and moved to Mesquite during my elementary years. I currently live in Forney. I married in 2004 to an amazing man who desires his family to love God above anything else. His passion for the Lord has taught me so much and has helped me grow spiritually. I have gone to church my entire life. I was baptized in fourth grade, but I feel I did not truly understand my commitment to the Lord until I was a Senior in high school. A verse that I go back to often is Psalms 27:14. It states, "Wait on the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage: wait on the Lord." I have found myself in situations when I have to simply wait on an outcome. Due to growing up in a society that provides instant gratification, waiting can be hard. However, I have learned that when I wait for God, I grow spiritually and I receive peace and joy beyond my understanding. Because my heart was prepared during my waiting time, I can fully appreciate God's response to the situation, even if it is not originally what I wanted.
I worked as a property manager for commercial real estate from 2001-2008. In 2008, I became a stay at home mom to my twin boys. I began looking into schools when they were getting ready to attend kindergarten. I knew I wanted a Christ centered school to continue to build on the foundation already set in place in them. I felt Providence Academy was exactly what they needed. In 2013, I was a teacher's aide for fourth grade. I then became the 3rd grade teacher in 2014. I am so excited to continue my journey teaching 3rd grade.

I am happy to be returning to my fifth year of teaching fourth grade at Providence Academy.
I graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. After a short stint in corporate America, I felt that I was not where I was supposed to be. I wanted to be a teacher as a child and felt that to be my calling. I received my teaching certification in 2002 and am now in my 15th year of teaching.
I am married to my husband, Jason, for 12 years. We have three children, two who currently attend Providence. We were looking for an alternate educational plan for our family and believe that this model is perfect for us.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also love to read, craft, travel, and experience the adventures of the great outdoors.
One scripture verse that stands out to me is Philippians 4:8, “ Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
5th Grade Self-Contained
Shannon Steinberger joined Providence Academy in 2012. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and has a Post Baccalaureate Degree in Education Certification. She has 3 years of public school experience, 15 years with another UMS school, and 5 years with PA. Shannon is married to Dane and they have two children: Harrison and Aubree.
I believe that I continue to grow each day as a Christian, and live my life according to His ways. It is a privilege to teach and share God’s word in an educational setting. I am thankful for each day that I may enhance a child’s education and their relationship with God.
I am an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. I have watched them since I was a young girl with my grandmother. I even stuck with them through their 1 win season. I know that we will make it back to the Super Bowl…hopefully sooner rather than later!
I am blessed beyond measure with the family that God gave to me. I love spending time with them. We enjoy taking walks, watching movies, reading together, cooking, and rooting on our teams in basketball, football, and baseball even though we are not always on the same side.
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me into your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Dean of Academics/ Middle School Language Arts
I grew up as part of a large family in Dallas. I always wanted to be a teacher and my three younger sisters were my first students. I have always enjoyed reading and some of my favorite memories from childhood include going to the library, checking out stacks of books, and then staying up reading late at night.
I received a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from East Texas State University in 1994 along with my certification to teach grades 1-8 with a specialization in reading. I taught third and fourth grade for several years in the public school system. In 2000, I received a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University - Commerce, and I was an assistant principal for several years until I left the public school system to be a full-time mom to our oldest son.
I've been married to my college sweetheart, Shane, for 21 years and we have four children who all attend Providence. We enjoy spending time together as a family and we are very blessed to have both of our extended families nearby. Shane and I serve in re|engage which is part of the marriage ministry at our church. Our family has been so blessed by Providence Academy and I am grateful to be part of the PA staff.
Middle School History
I grew up in Orange, a small town in southeast Texas. After high school, I moved to Dallas to attend the University of Texas at Dallas where I earned a BS in Child Learning and Development and a BA in Psychology. After college I completed a year-long campus ministry internship with the ministry I was a part of throughout my college years. I then received my teaching certification from Region 10 and taught in the public school system for three years before joining Providence Academy.
My husband and I were married in 2015 and we brought our first puppy home on our one year wedding anniversary! During my free-time I love spending time with my friends and family and helping lead the women’s ministry at my church. I also enjoy leisurely activities, such as reading, running, dancing, and decorating. Recently, I ran my first two half marathons in the fall of 2016 and am currently training for more!
The scripture that seems to most often present itself in my life is Hebrews 12:11, “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
Middle School Math
I am so excited to be teaching my here at Providence Academy! I graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies & a Master’s degree in Education Administration. I spent 10 years teaching in public schools. I left the classroom to spend more time at home with my kids, something my husband and I both desired.
I’ve been married to my husband, Jason, for 12 years. We were blessed to be referred to Providence Academy for my son, Peyton when we left public school. This is his third year at PA, he is now in 4th grade and our daughter, Bevin is in Kindergarten. We love to spend time at the deer lease, and just spending valuable time together.
A favorite scripture of mine is Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Middle School Science
My name is Sonya Perry. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Bryant. We have two children, Bryanna, and Dietrich. We live in Rowlett and attend the Church of Christ. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology from Arkansas State University. I worked for a short period of time as Zoo Curator for a small private, rescue zoo in Memphis, TN, but most of my background is in pharmaceuticals, where I was a pharmacy technician and department manager/district assistant for thirteen years. When my daughter was born, I became a stay at home mom for six and a half years so I could be with my children. I have been teaching since 2006, but last year obtained my teaching certificate.
I grew up in Houston. After high school I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and minor in Spanish. In the summer of 1984 I received a Bilingual/ESL endorsement from SMU. In June of 2006 I received my all-level art certification. I have 21 years of teaching experience. After we moved from Dallas to Heath in 2012, I created an after school art program teaching art in various locations in Mesquite, Rockwall, and Rowlett. Prior to moving to Heath in 2012, I taught art at The Covenant School , a classical Christian school, in Dallas for six years. I am very excited to be teaching art for Providence Academy this year.
From a very young age I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I had a playhouse in my backyard where I “taught school” to the neighborhood children. My husband is also a teacher. We have been married for 26 years and have been blessed with two daughters, ages 16 and 20. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, spending time outdoors and traveling.
My favorite Bible verse is, “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
My husband Justin and I have been married 14 years. The Lord has blessed us with 3 beautiful daughters, who both attend Providence Academy. I received a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies from Tarleton State University in 2002 and received my EC-4th ESL teaching certification from their TMATE program in 2004. This will be my first year teaching Kindergarten at Providence Academy and I am so excited for what God has in store.
As a child and teenager I was homeschooled with my 7 siblings and my husband was in public school. So when our oldest daughter was 3 we began to pray and seek how the Lord would have us to educate her. After two years of praying we discovered Providence, from a stranger, at a museum an hour away. After researching Providence and the University Model School, it became apparent that it was a perfect fit for our family. Now 3 years later both of our children are surrounded here by God’s Word and His people. They are getting a Biblically sound, academically exemplary education which integrates and encourages home and family. I feel that they are getting the best of both worlds.
As a teacher I love engaging children in learning and really enjoy intertwining God’s word into every day and every subject area. Even as a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher and I loved pretending to be a teacher and playing school. I have a passion for planting a love for learning in children at an early age and building a firm foundation in the early years that will allow children to grow and become successful lifelong learners. I feel blessed to be a part of the loving Christian education environment your child will receive at Providence.

I am originally from Lubbock, TX. I came to know the Lord at a very young age and had the privilege of growing up on the mission field. I lived ten years in Costa Rica and Mexico City. I attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a B.A. in Spanish. My family and I relocated to Rockwall from Lubbock, TX. I have been married for 17 years and have four amazing kids. Teaching children is my passion! I have been teaching at Providence Academy since 2013. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Isaiah 41:10. This verse has always been a comfort to me knowing that whatever I do or wherever I am, God is right there beside me sustaining and encouraging me!!
